Muu Muu
b. 1955, Wanbo Village, Monywa, Burma
A graduate of the State School of Fine Arts in Mandalay (1978), Muu Muu is an artist whose works capture the quiet poetry and subtle rhythms of everyday life in Burma. Now based in the cool, scenic hill town of May Myo, his practice is deeply rooted in the landscapes and atmospheres that surround him—where mist, nature, scenes and memory gently intertwine. Emerging international recognition in the 2000s, his works have been exhibited in the United States, France, Singapore, Malaysia, and several other countries. In 2019, his paintings were featured at the Garden Exhibition in Stockholm, Sweden. His recent solo exhibitions include Sketch & Think (Think Art Gallery, Yangon, 2015), Mysterious (Lokanat Gallery, Yangon, 2019), and Works of Covid Period (Café May Myo, 2020). Drawn to the simplicity and spirit of his surroundings, Muu Muu often returns to beloved motifs such as horses, birds, and frogs—symbols of hamlet life, grace, instinct, and emotional flow. Through fluid compositions, organic forms, and radiant color palettes, his paintings evoke movement and feeling, offering viewers a vivid sense of life unfolding. Blending contemporary expression with the textures of tradition, Muu Muu’s work stand as an homage to Myanmar’s rich artistic heritage and to the timeless beauty found in ordinary moments.
