Some identities remain unrecorded.
And some futures remain uncertain.
Before The Future is a solo exhibition by Lulu Song that explores themes of statelessness, identity, memory, and belonging through embroidery, thread-based practices, and fragmented visual narratives. Drawing upon the lived experiences and often-overlooked histories of stateless communities, the exhibition reflects on the presence of those who frequently remain absent from official records and social recognition. Through delicate yet persistent acts of stitching and reconstruction, the works examine how memory, identity, and personal histories endure despite conditions of displacement and invisibility. The exhibition invites viewers to contemplate the relationship between selfhood, memory, and visibility, while questioning what it means to belong to a place, a community, or a future that remains uncertain.
About the Artist
Lulu Song (b. 1997, China) is an artist-researcher who uses art as a medium for social change. Through her exploration of identity and “invisible narratives,” she seeks to create spaces where marginalized voices and experiences can be seen, heard, and acknowledged. She received a BA in Advertising Science from Southwest Jiaotong University and is currently completing an MFA in Visual Arts at Chiang Mai University.
